Drunk Calculator: A Fun Twist on Basic Math

A calculator that gets progressively more "tipsy" with each calculation!

Tipsy
0

How it works:

  • Adjust the drunk level slider (0 = sober, 10 = wasted)
  • Higher drunk levels cause more calculation "mistakes"
  • Watch for funny messages when the calculator gets confused!
  • Numbers might wobble, calculations might be off - just like real drunk math!

How the "drunkenness" is actually computed

At drunk level 0, this is a plain four-function calculator — no randomness is applied anywhere in the code. Above level 0, every result gets multiplied by an error factor: 1 + (Math.random() − 0.5) × (drunkLevel × 0.02). That means the error is a random value centered on zero, with a spread that grows linearly with the slider.

Worked example: bounding the error at level 10

Calculate 7 + 8 = 15 (exact, level 0). At drunk level 10, the error factor ranges from 1 + (−0.5 × 0.2) = 0.90 to 1 + (0.5 × 0.2) = 1.10. Applied to 15, the displayed answer can land anywhere from 13.5 to 16.5, uniformly at random, rounded to 4 decimal places. At level 3 (the "Tipsy" default) the same calculation only drifts between 14.55 and 15.45.

Above level 7 there's an additional 10% chance per calculation of a bigger jolt — up to ±5 added directly to the result — on top of the normal error factor, which is why very high settings occasionally produce answers that look nothing like the real sum.

What this tool is not for

Because every result above level 0 is intentionally wrong by a random margin, don't use this for anything where the number matters — it exists purely as a novelty version of a basic calculator. Set the slider to 0 if you actually need arithmetic done correctly.
