Algebra Calculators

Algebra is where letters start to stand in for numbers, and where most of the marks are for the method rather than the final answer. The main calculators here are built around that: they give the result and then walk through the steps a teacher would expect to see.

The quadratic formula calculator solves any equation of the form ax² + bx + c = 0. It works out the discriminant first, tells you what kind of solutions to expect, gives exact answers such as −1 ± √3 where they exist, handles complex roots and draws the parabola. The slope calculator takes two points and returns the slope as a fraction and a decimal together with the equation of the line. The exponent calculator covers positive, zero, negative and fractional powers and explains which rule it used.

Three coordinate tools belong together: slope, midpoint and distance between two points all start from the same pair of points. For sequences and series there are calculators for geometric sequences, Fibonacci numbers, sigma notation and series that approximate π. The vector tools handle dot products, cross products, general vector arithmetic and conversion between Cartesian, cylindrical and spherical coordinates.
