Slope Calculator: Quick and Accurate Calculations

Enter two points to calculate the slope, distance, and midpoint between them.

Point 1

Point 2

Worked example

Point 1: (2, 3). Point 2: (8, 11).

This pair of points forms a 6-8-10 right triangle (a scaled 3-4-5 triangle) between the horizontal and vertical legs and the straight-line distance, which is why the distance comes out to a clean whole number instead of an irrational square root.

Why a vertical line breaks the slope formula

If both points share the same x-coordinate (x₂ − x₁ = 0), the slope formula divides by zero. The tool detects this and reports "undefined" rather than a numeric result, since a vertical line has no defined rise-over-run slope — it isn't that the slope is very large, it genuinely doesn't exist in the m = Δy/Δx sense. Distance and midpoint still compute normally in that case.

Rounding

Results are computed to full floating-point precision internally and displayed rounded to 4 decimal places, with trailing zeros stripped (so 10.0000 displays as 10, not 10.0000).
