Decimal to Percent

Worked examples

Percent → decimal: 42.5% ÷ 100 = 0.425

Decimal → percent: 0.06 × 100 = 6%

These two boxes are independent — converting in one direction doesn't feed into the other, so you can use whichever box matches the direction you need without clearing the other one first.

Why this conversion matters

Percent literally means "per hundred," so a percentage is already a fraction with 100 as the denominator — 42.5% is shorthand for 42.5/100. Converting to decimal form is what makes the value usable directly in multiplication: to find 42.5% of $80, you compute 80 × 0.425 = $34, not 80 × 42.5.

Precision

Results are rounded to 12 significant digits, which avoids floating-point noise (like 0.1 + 0.2 showing as 0.30000000000000004) while still preserving enough precision for financial or scientific inputs. A blank field or non-numeric input returns an error rather than a silent zero.
