How Hours Are Calculated

The tool converts your clock-in and clock-out times into a total minute count, subtracts any unpaid break, then divides by 60 to get decimal hours.

Worked Example

Clock in at 08:45, clock out at 17:30, with a 30-minute unpaid break. Raw time worked: from 8:45 to 17:30 is 8 hours 45 minutes, or 525 minutes. Subtracting the 30-minute break: 525 - 30 = 495 minutes worked, which is 495 / 60 = 8.25 hours (displayed as both "8.25" and "8:15" - 0.25 hours converts to 15 minutes).

At an hourly rate of $20.00, earnings for that entry: 8.25 x $20.00 = $165.00.

Overnight Shifts

If clock-out is earlier than clock-in (say, in at 22:00, out at 06:00), the tool assumes you worked past midnight and adds a day to the end time before calculating - so 22:00 to 06:00 correctly computes as 8 hours rather than a negative duration.

Multiple Entries

Each "Add Entry" click stores a separate shift; the summary totals hours and earnings across every stored entry, not just the most recent one. This is useful for logging a split shift or several days' worth of hours before totaling them.

What Gets Rejected

Both clock-in and clock-out are required, and the break time can't consume more minutes than the shift actually contains - entering a 90-minute break on a 60-minute shift triggers an error instead of a negative work duration.
